Established in 1922 by John Uhel Grimsley Sr., Grimsley's pharmacy is the oldest family-owned pharmacy in Georgia.
John Grimsley Jr. followed in his father's footsteps, and today, John Grimsley III - known around these parts fondly as 'Mr. Johnny' - continues to offer that personal hometown connection with each of his customers. Behind the counter or at the drive-thru window, you will find Matt and John (and on Wednesdays, Eve) to help you with any of your needs or concerns.
John and Nancy Grimsley are the proud parents of Sloan and John Grimsley IV, and are the grandparents of Jack, Neely, Ava, and Ella. They travel frequently to spend time with their family members as family connections are a very important part of their lives.
Grimsley's isn't just a pharmacy anymore. It's no secret that in the early morning hours, you will find the local businessmen gathering together around their mugs of coffee at Grimsley's to discuss current community and national events. Visitors from other areas look forward to visiting the coffee group as part of experiencing the Bainbridge, GA atmosphere.
Nancy has added her personal touch and transformed the extended area into an alluring gift shop. She stocks it with unique specialty items perfect for gifting, personal use or outright indulgence! Word has it that when Mr. Johnny is away, which he rarely is, she takes to a bit of re-decorating. Shhh. Mr. Johnny doesn’t know.
Though founded in downtown Bainbridge, in 1973 the pharmacy relocated just behind Memorial Hospital and Manor. You are welcome and encouraged to visit Grimsley's Pharmacy Monday through Friday eight-thirty to six, and Saturday eight-thirty to noon, at 1508 Evans Street. The original owner, my husband's grandfather was John Uhel Grimsley Sr. His father, John Uhel Grimsley Jr took over, and now my husband, John Uhel Grimsley III is running the Pharmacy. Our grandson John Uhel Grimsley V wants to follow in his Grandfather's footsteps and one day take over the family business. We are honored to carry this fine product in our Pharmacy. MY FAMILY MOVED TO BAINBRIDGE IN DEC., 1957, WHEN I WAS 11 YRS. OLD. I WENT TO ELKIN KING ELEMENTARY AND THEN TO BAINBRIDGE HIGH IN THE 7TH GRADE. (WE LIVED IN BAINBRIDGE UNTIL ABOUT JUNE, 1959.) MY AUNT AND UNCLE WERE MATTIE AND O'NEAL TURNER AND THEY HAD A DAUGHTER WHO GRADUATED FROM BAINBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL (I BELIEVE IN 1957). HER SISTER, BETH, WHO WAS YOUNGER, ALSO WENT TO BHS. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THIS WEBSITE. I ALWAYS CALLED IT "GRIMSLEY'S DRUG STORE", AND I BOUGHT MY FIRST PAIR OF RUBBER FLIP-FLOPS THERE FOR 50 CENTS! THEY WERE ALL THE RAGE! HA HA (I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT FIND THAT AMUSING. I STILL THINK IT'S FUNNY.) BY THE WAY, I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH JOHNNY GRIMSLEY, AND SEVERAL OTHER OF HIS CLASSMATES THAT HE WOULD REMEMBER, AND I HOPE HE IS WELL. GOD BLESS YOU ALL FOR CARRYING ON SUCH A FINE HERITAGE.
